What is medical weight loss?

Provider giving a GLP-1 weight loss pen injection in a woman's abdomen

Medical weight loss is a doctor-supervised plan to lose weight safely, built on your labs and health history rather than a one-size-fits-all diet. Medical weight loss in Vero Beach is physician-led.

Your plan covers nutrition and activity, with GLP-1 medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide only when it's medically appropriate. Weight management is included in our DPC Plus membership ($199/mo).

Who medical weight loss is for

GLP-1 medication is generally prescribed for adults with a BMI of 30+, or 27+ with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes, and your provider checks whether it's right for you. GLP-1 medication isn't suitable during pregnancy, or with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2 (GLP-1 boxed warning).

How medical weight loss works

GLP-1 medications mimic a natural hormone that slows digestion and signals fullness, so you feel satisfied with less food. Combined with nutrition and activity changes, this helps many people lose weight steadily, and we track your progress at every check-in.

Medical weight loss questions

How much does medical weight loss cost in Vero Beach?

Your first visit is $350 for the hour, and follow-up visits are $150. Medication costs depend on what's prescribed, and we go over them at your visit. Weight management is also included in our DPC Plus membership at $199 a month.

Which weight loss medications do you use?

GLP-1 medications help regulate appetite and blood sugar. Options include FDA-approved brand-name medications such as Wegovy® and Zepbound®. Your provider explains the options, costs and side effects at your consult.

Semaglutide vs tirzepatide: what's the difference?

Semaglutide acts on one appetite hormone (GLP-1); tirzepatide acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP). In studies, tirzepatide led to somewhat more weight loss on average. Your provider recommends one based on your health, goals and cost.

What are the side effects?

Common side effects are nausea, constipation or diarrhea, especially when the dose goes up. We start low and adjust slowly at your monthly check-ins.

How much weight can I lose, and do I stay on medication forever?

It varies a lot from person to person; we set realistic goals together and track your progress, not just the scale. Not necessarily forever: we build a maintenance plan with you.

Does insurance cover it?

Some insurance plans cover brand-name GLP-1 medications for weight loss; many don't. Ask us at your consult and we'll go over your options.
